Weekend Getaway in St. Simons Island

Asher and I recently celebrated four years together in St. Simons Island, GA. We took the weekend off to experience a short, romantic getaway! We chose St. Simons Island since it was only two hours away from home. St. Simons Island was voted America's #1 Most Romantic Town by Travel + Leisure...how fitting?! We drove up Friday and left Saturday night. While we could have made it a day trip, we decided to rent the cutest Airbnb to spend the night in. Asher and I had heard great things about the small and quaint coastal town. It was definitely the perfect spot to celebrate an anniversary.

Asher and I love road trips. We spent the two hours jamming out to our favorite music. We played a game where we would stop the music during the song to see if we could finish the rest of the lyrics without the music playing. We couldn't stop laughing! It is always so fun to drive together.

As soon as we got on the island, I knew it would be a wonderful weekend. There were so many charming houses to look out and little stores to stop in. Since our Airbnb wasn't open until late afternoon, we decided to go have lunch. We ate lunch at Southern Soul BBQ. It was rated Southern Living Magazine's "The South's Best BBQ 2018" and did not disappoint! The line was long since it has been featured in many magazines and television shows. However, Asher and I will always wait for southern BBQ! I highly recommend the "Southern Soul Sandwich" with jumbo pulled pork topped with their sweet sauce!

After lunch, we went to the main strip to shop the local stores. I like to pick up a T-shirt where ever I go (#tourist) so I went to find a cute one. I ended up with a teal Comfort Colors T-shirt with the SSI lighthouse on it. After stopping by a few stores, we visited Christ Church Frederica. This place dates back to the Civil War so it was very interesting to see. We walked through the Wesley Memorial & Gardens as well. Oak trees surrounded the entire garden and flowers were blooming bright pink and white. It was a gorgeous site! The Celtic cross sat right in the middle. We loved the peacefulness and solitude to this area.

A few moments later, our Airbnb host called to tell us our cottage was ready. We were so excited so we drove right over. The cottage was located biking distance from the main shopping strip. The cottage was hidden down a street next to the water with a big oak tree wrapped around the property. It was the cutest place! We walked down the stone pathway and up the steps to our cottage. The main living area was on the second floor. We opened the French doors to the kitchen and living area. The decor had southern charm, for sure! There was a bedroom and bathroom to the left. The host had picked flowers from the garden and left them in a vase on the side table...so sweet!

The best perk of staying in an Airbnb was the two bikes we were able to use to explore around the island. After relaxing for a little bit, we biked off to dinner. We went down the streets around the neighborhood to check out the houses. I love looking at different house designs, especially in the south. It felt like biking through a real-life Pinterest board. All of the homes were stunning!

We stopped by the lighthouse to watch the sunset. It was such a breathtaking moment. Asher and I sat on our bikes and took some pictures during the gorgeous golden hour. Watching the sun set over the water was incredible! When the sun went down, we walked over to The Half Shell to eat dinner. The crab bisque soup was the perfect treat after a chilly bike ride around town!

What I liked most about the Airbnb was that there was no tv or wifi. It was a great getaway from technology. The next morning we got up with the sun peaking through the curtains and birds chirping outside our door. There was a nice breeze so we decided to cuddle outside under a blanket with some coffee. It was such a peaceful moment together. If you have ever thought about visiting SSI, I highly recommend staying at this Elegant St. Simons Island Honeymoon Beach Cottage. Melanie was a wonderful host! We can't wait to go back!
